gemini Season
Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac. I like to think of each sign as a part of psyche, making Gemini the third of twelve stages in psychical evolution. It represents learning and retention. Language, social mores, cultural codes and environmental narratives are observes and patterned. This is also why Gemini is often associated with our early childhood, the stage of development that is critical in our social conditioning.
As with everything in the Universe, Gemini has multitudes—lows and highs. A high frequency Gemini understands judgment as a qualitative condition, one that when activated by an equitable mind, evolves into an insurgent skill. Naturally, Gemini seeks to develop the world around it by excavating our anthropological blindspots. This energy reminds us that we learn from praxis and for praxis.
Gemini is necessarily skeptical. Gemini knows better than anyone, that data is only as reliable as its context. Thus, as our divine translator, Gemini urges us to question our proximity to and satisfaction with data. For this reason, Gemini pushes us to expand our communities, so that we may learn what is unlearnable in the proximate and familiar. For a fatigued Gemini such work becomes a personal tension. How can the Gemini push past its own ideas and environment to expand?
At a lower frequency, one of many things can occur. Gemini might experience cognitive burnouts in the face of restlessness. It may lose clarity of purpose in the face of novelty. It may be pugnacious in the face of slower rhythms. If it experiences interpersonal stasis, for which it is not well suited (as Gemini’s nature is mutable) avoidance is a common response, for which there is little bandwidth to resolve. A Gemini can learn to discern when to hit the breaks or slam the horsepower. Gemini will discover that leadership without pliability is autocratic. It will become a great mentor in the global revolution, deprogramming the parasitic egoism, tyranny and scarcity plaguing our social systems. Sculpting young minds may be a particular area of interest for Gemini, as whatever work occurs here affects the roles people will hold in our society’s future. On the other hand, if Gemini is not self-inquiring, well, things can get messy.
I use it to describe Gemini because it is a part of psyche, not an individual. Our friends whose Natal Sun(s) reside in Gemini are not Gemini themselves. They are actors in Gemini’s playground—imbuing this constellation with the Sun’s vital light.
Everyone is working with Gemini’s energy, even those of us whose natal sun is not positioned there. The nature of this work will depend heavily on the celestial confluence found in the natal chart—from planetary positions, interplanetary aspects, degrees of influence, house placements and ongoing transits. For some, the quality of this work is incredibly subtle, for others it is emphatic—weaving itself not only through individual narratives, but through entire cultures, societies and their anthropological qualities.
Today, the sun in Gemini is squaring mars in Pisces. Collectively, we should take a deep breath to consider if our mental ambitions are aligned with our energetic bandwidth. Are we in the position to activate our dreams into consciousness if we are not pausing to restore our energy? Our mental stamina is increasing, but we have to allow the nervous system to catch up. If we don’t honor the necessary interlude, we may experience restlessness and anxiety.
Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, culminating the total evolution of our psyche. Its energy unleashes the infinite, Neptunian loom which generates points of tensions. These points of tension implode into new births, and new worlds. The germinated darkness evokes our experience within the womb—proximate in spirit, elusive in all other ways. These deep mysteries within our subconscious expand rampantly in Mars. Mars rules Aries, which is the first sign of the zodiac, overseeing the birth of the matrix, opposite to Pisces’ death and dissolve. This placement makes for an interesting tension between beginnings and endings. As Mars searches fiercely for something to act on, Pisces might take us into a realm of illusions and storytelling. Stories might sustain us for a small moment, but do not have a horizontal impact on our growth and evolution. The details of our fantasies often stagnating our energy. For this reason now is a really good time to make art and learn new skills! With the Sun in Gemini falling into a square with Mars in Pisces, it might be a good time to learn things like weaving and sowing or working with new tools, particularly steel tools. Another thing to consider with this Pisces Mars is to meditate on the meaning and actionability of silence. Can you direct your curiosity to passive modes of resistance? Electricity meant we could work after the Sun was down, are you willing to turn off the lights?
